What our family looks for in the main course of a meal is varied.
Micah requires a balanced meal, few unhealthy fats, and to be left feeling full. It’s important for Micah to avoid fatty foods, but he also wants to feel as though he indulged in more than a toothpick and a tic-tac.
While we are consistently encouraging Eden to try new and different foods, we are still on guard of potential allergies, and are willing to accept that she may simply just not like certain foods. We have also found that she isn’t quite ready to eat some foods in the same manner in which we eat – for instance, tacos, wraps, etc. However, she is very aware of how our food looks, and how her food looks – if there is a disparity, she is unhappy. After all, she wants to be a big girl. So we have become creative – we split her food in half, making one half very easy for her to eat, and the other half kept in it’s original form, like how Micah and I would eat it. It allows her the flexibility to try eating the “big girl” way, but still having enough in “little girl” form that she doesn’t get discouraged and shove the food aside. So far, so good; she is learning and enjoying introducing those new foods to her palate.
And me, well…this is my true downfall. I love all food!
Our preferred foods also change with the season. Like most people, we don’t crave a hot bowl of chili on a day where temperatures reach 100 degrees! And who wants to turn on the oven for hours on a day that warm, too? We tend to gravitate toward meals that are filling, but fresh; and, use produce that is in season. Not only is it cost-effective, but it’s delicious. Who doesn’t love that combination?!
Again, we hope you enjoy perusing these recipes and find ways to make them your own, just as we have done. We love feedback, too, so keep us posted on your recipe endeavors!
